PANDAVAPURA NEAR SRIRANGAPATTANA

There is a town close to Srirangapattana called Pandavapura which could be seen as a twin city of Srirangapattana but none the less a significant place. This place has a claim to fame on various counts. But one of the key aspects is that the French contingent of the Srirangapattana army was stationed here.

On the fateful day of 4th May 1799 Dewan Purniah also with Fateh Haider and another Marathi commander "Dondea Wagh" were stationed here. The Marathi Commander wanted to continue the fight though Tippu had fallen. However Dewan Purniah advised Fateh Haider to surrender to the English though they had a strong army of some thirty thousand men.

This town seems to be nerve center of trade during Vijayanagar times and the name Pandavapura assigned to this place by the Vijayanagar kings.
